SUPPORTED COMMUNITY LIVING
SCL services are designed to teach new skills and improve existing
ones. This can include the following:

COMMUNITY SKILLS TRAINING -
Working with the consumer to improve community safety skills such
as crossing the street, what to do if they are lost and other stranger
danger activities. Learning to utilize the home and public telephones.
Assisting the consumers in gaining personal knowledge of community
resources. Aiding the consumers in recognizing landmarks such as Target,
the local Mall, McDonald's and other area restaurants.

PERSONAL MANAGEMENT SKILLS TRAINING
-
Learning to budget for personal finances or special events. Planning
healthy meals, purchasing and preparing those meals and also safely
using the stove, the microwave and the oven. Maintaining a household
by utilizing various cleaning tools (vacuum cleaner, laundry detergent).
Working with the consumer to gain skills to complete basic clothing
care such as laundry, hanging and folding clothes and even sewing if
needed. |

COMMUNICATION SKILLS TRAINING
-
Increasing ways to communicate through the use of sign language, speech
training or other communication devices. |

SOCIALIZATION SKILLS TRAINING
-
Developing friendships and expanding peer groups. NCI has recently
added a Recreation Coordinator to assist consumers in this area. NCI
is increasing its weekly group activity schedules to offer more choices
to the consumers.

TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
-
NCI can assist persons in learning the skills needed to travel from
one place to another. Consumers can utilize public transportation
such as the bus and strive to gain knowledge of their routes. When
available the use of the Great River Bend services or taxi services
are also offered as options.

TREATMENT SERVICES -
Decreasing inappropriate behaviors and increasing skills so they will
not be a barrier in the community. NCI can utilize behavioral programming
recommendations from other sources used by the family i.e. school,
doctors etc
|
|
RECREATION SERVICES -
Assisting the consumers to increase the productive use of their free
time. NCI can assist consumers with their involvement in activities
such as the Boy/Girl Scouts or various Special Olympics events. Consumers
are also encouraged to spend time at the local library or join a bowling
league. NCI can assist consumers in obtaining and enjoying membership
at the local YMCA and utilize its many options. Classes offered at
the local community college are also utilized.
